A correct total can still be received as the wrong quantity
In an Amazon Seller Forums discussion, a seller reported sending six cases of six jars: 36 individual units. The warehouse reportedly recorded six units and sent entire cases for single-jar orders. The seller described lost stock, return freight and incorrect fulfilment dimensions.
This is an older, self-reported jar shipment, not a measured small-appliance failure rate. The same discussion includes sellers who successfully used individual-unit shipment configurations. Nested packaging is not inherently wrong. The risk is that the supplier, warehouse and listing mean different things by one unit. The old thread is not a guide to today's shipment software.
Count the complete appliance separately from its accessories
Start with what the customer buys. The public COSONIC CSB-7702 configuration lists a 1.5L glass jug and an included glass dry grinder, with four units per carton. The grinder is an included accessory, not evidence of a second independently saleable appliance.
For an order using that confirmed packing configuration, three cartons would mean 12 complete appliance units. It would not mean three retail units, or 24 units obtained by counting the jug and grinder separately. This is arithmetic, not a minimum order quantity or stock offer. Confirm the retail package and accessory list for the order version.
Give each packaging level an unambiguous identity
Separate three descriptions in the purchase order: one complete selling unit, any inner pack, and the outer shipping carton. Record the contents and quantity at each level. A closed-carton photo cannot establish what is inside one retail package.
The GS1 GTIN Management Standard, release 1.1, section 2.8, distinguishes packaging levels. Changing the number of trade items in a case requires a new GTIN for the affected case level. The unchanged individual product does not necessarily need a new code. A GTIN is not a marketplace's approval to sell.
Match the supplier's packing specification to the receiving channel's current instructions. Ask the warehouse which identifier represents the unit it will receive and pick. Do not assume the outer-carton barcode identifies one retail unit, or that a marketplace label replaces every other identifier.
Settle the mismatch before placing the order
Request a photo of one open retail package with its contents visible, a carton-packing photo and a quantity breakdown. Compare these with the listing and purchase order. Record the model and version, included accessories, selling units per carton, total selling units and total cartons. Keep unit and carton dimensions separate.
Send the same breakdown to the receiving warehouse before dispatch. A multipack or complete set can legitimately be one selling unit, provided the listing, packaging and receiving record describe that same set.
Pause the order if the photos, quantities or identifiers disagree. Resolve the mismatch and update the shared order record before approving labels. More cartons do not make an unclear unit definition safer.
